Pecans, normally, are a nutritious addition to a meal or snack. You can hold several pecans in your palm; they're not very big.

Students at Tzohar L'Tohar, however, were presented with one large Pecan, and they walked right in.

This particular Pecan is a fruit and nut store, located in the appropriately-named Kiryat Tivon (Nature City) near Rechasim.

The Tzohar L'Tohar students had just completed a year-long study project during which they learned to be educated consumers. They learned how to choose the products they want, how to decide if the price is appropriate to the amount of money they can spend and how to behave at the check-out line and cashier's desk.

The father of Tzohar L'Tohar student Moishiko Molla kindly arranged for our students to visit the Pecan store during a time when the staff could devote attention to them.

Each student chose the item he wanted, bagged it and sealed it and presented it to be weighed at the cashier's counter. Bar code numbers and final prices became topics of interest, and the students remembered to count their change.

We all thank Mr. Mendy Molla for being our gracious host, and for the drinks, snacks and ice pops that he cheerfully presented to the students. He left us with a good taste for educated shopping!
