Celebrating Chanukah with Residents of a Retirement Home
During Chanukah, we took a trip to a retirement home in nearby Kiryat Ata. It was a trip with a purpose.
We wanted to identify the ability of each student to light up the world during the days of Chanukah, and not just with candles. We wanted them to discover that they can bring light and happiness to the aged.
And they did an amazing job!
The children approached the residents of the retirement home, expressing their good wishes for a happy Chanukah, and served each person a fragrant sufgania (Israeli jelly doughnut).
Then the youngsters simply broke out in a lively, joyous dance.
The students had discovered how great it feels to be a "giver" and we, the staff members, discovered how they felt by looking at their shining eyes.
