Preschool and grade school for children on autistic spectrum
At Lev Tov (which translates as “good heart”) we’ve built a warm home for our students, their parents and the staff. The forward-looking and caring faculty members make sure that every student receives a quality education.
Boys’ preschool from age three, Talmud Torah elementary school, yeshiva for youth to age 21. More than fifty youngsters from Ashdod and the surrounding area with diagnoses on the autism spectrum attend Lev Tov, which shepherds them carefully from childhood to young adulthood
The best melamdim (tutors), pre-school teachers, teachers and therapists, using an advanced therapeutic educational approach, give individual attention, from the heart, to each student. Staff members from various disciplines coordinate with each other and with the psychologist, social worker, psychiatrist and guidance counselors to craft an inter-disciplinary, cohesive and personalized approach to educating each individual student.
The Ministry of Education’s Core Curriculum is taught at a high level. Classes are in session for a full day (morning and afternoon).
Students benefit from a range of individual and group therapies, including speech and communication, occupational therapy, physical therapy, swimming, development of social skills in a group setting, horticultural therapy (in this case, taking care of a vegetable garden), animal-assisted therapy, and art, music and drama therapy. Lev Tov also maintains a pet corner. The staff combines new approaches such as TEACCH with classic teaching techniques to obtain top results.
Preparation for Life:
The students learn and practice diverse skills necessary for functioning independently; they acquire the understanding of how to communicate with their surroundings and how to fit into the community. Each student, according to his abilities and inclinations, also acquires knowledge and practical skills useful in a variety of occupations.
Lev Tov regards the students’ parents as natural and important partners. The school updates parents regularly regarding their child’s progress, and integrates the parents in formulating and implementing their child’s treatment plan. Professional guidance by staff members, given individually and in groups to the parents assists them in their important task of developing the strength of the family as a whole.
“A Good Heart”, Lev Tov. That’s the name of this network of Tzohar HaLev’s educational institutions in Ashdod and that’s also an accurate description of the mindset and aspirations guiding the workforce. The Lev Tov framework gives students and parents the benefit of wide professional expertise, a big heart and a strong shoulder to lean on all the way down the road to success.
“The stories of our alumni’s integration into mainstream society including their successful preparation for a good occupation, plus their involvement in activities in the wider community, signify the level of Lev Tov’s tangible achievements.
